The webinar “Animal Welfare: an innovative approach to resilient livestock farming,” organized by FONTAGRO in collaboration with leading agricultural institutions from Argentina, Chile, and Colombia, including the ArgenINTA Foundation, the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA) – Argentina, the Agricultural Research Institute (INIA) – Chile, the Colombian Agricultural Research Corporation (AGROSAVIA), and One Welfare CIC, was successfully held.

During this outstanding event, experts, researchers, and professionals came together to share groundbreaking knowledge and innovations in the field of animal welfare applied to livestock farming in the region. The main goal was to showcase how these organizations are committed to strengthening the resilience of livestock systems by implementing good practices for cattle and sheep, grounded in animal welfare principles through a project funded by FONTAGRO.

Discussions focused on the importance of adopting holistic approaches that genuinely transform the lives of smallholders, prioritizing sustainability in its various dimensions: human, animal, and ecosystem health, as well as economic profitability.

Dr. Eugenia Saini, Executive Secretary of FONTAGRO, who moderated the webinar, highlighted the importance of collaboration between research institutions, farmer organizations, and international bodies to drive meaningful and lasting changes in agricultural systems. “Synergy between these actors is key to building a sustainable, inclusive, and resilient agricultural future.”

FONTAGRO thanks all attendees, panelists, and organizations that contributed to the success of this webinar. Their expertise and dedication are invaluable in the journey toward promoting sustainable agriculture and rural development in Latin America and the Caribbean.
